What's in the Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus Mattress?
Here at Sheets & Giggles, we’re big believers in the refrain “it’s what’s on the inside that counts.”
(Tbh, that belief does get a little shaky after yet another rejection, but the 23rd time’s the charm, right?)
So, in keeping with that thought, here are the components of our new, sustainable eucalyptus mattress, from top to bottom.
Available for preorder now!
Eucalyptus Lyocell Cover
Starting strong, the S&G mattress has a beautiful eucalyptus lyocell cover.
*Insert “OOHs” and “AHHHs” here*
We took our signature eucalyptus lyocell that customers love and used it to make the cover for our new mattress. A complete no-brainer.
For anyone unaware, lyocell is naturally cooling, super soft, moisture-wicking, and made without pesticides. If you were looking for the holy grail of bedding fabrics (a favorite pastime of ours here at S&G), lyocell is it. It’s the perfect material for covering a mattress and, dare we say, things only get better from here.
Two layers of Talalay Latex
Under that cool, exceptionally soft eucalyptus lyocell cover are two layers of Talalay latex. Now what exactly, you may ask, is Talalay latex? You ask, we answer.
In the mattress industry, Talalay latex is the absolute gold standard. It’s a form of natural latex made from renewable tree sap that’s breathable, soft, and supportive. Unlike other common mattress components, Talalay latex is completely natural and plastic-free.
When you lay down on a Talalay latex mattress, you don’t just sink into it and get swallowed up like on other mattresses (cough, cough… memory foam). It holds its shape and supports you like a good friend.
Talalay latex: So soft and inviting, you'll want to collapse onto it immediately
But we didn’t stop there.
We added two separate layers of natural Talalay latex, one firmer layer on the bottom and a softer layer on top. They work together in perfect harmony to gently conform to your body and relieve pressure. You won’t get that from any old mattress.
If you’ve been plagued by the question “should I get a firm mattress or a softer mattress?” S&G’s mattress is the Goldilocks option. As a medium-firm mattress, it's perfect for any kind of sleeper: side, back, stomach, curled-up-in-a-ball or a combination of all four.
The Talalay latex is even capable of naturally dispersing body heat and allowing air flow to cool you down. In fact, Talalay latex is up to 7 times more breathable than foam or other types of latex. Say goodbye to overheating at night.
Steel Coils
Talalay latex would make a great mattress on its own, but paired with recycled steel coils, it becomes the mattress you didn’t know you needed.
Sometimes, you just can’t argue with a classic. Steel coils are extremely popular in mattresses for a reason, and we simply couldn’t leave them out of the S&G mattress. So, we combined them with our Talalay latex for a hybrid design that is the best of all worlds.
The tempered steel coils make up the base layer of the mattress. But we didn’t just throw those coils in there willy nilly. They’re carefully placed in such a way that they’re a little firmer around the edge of the mattress for integrity and to support the weight of sitting, and a little softer towards the center. That pattern offers superior pressure point relief and back and joint support.
aww, they fell asleep in the S&G showroom
Plus, each coil is individually wrapped for independent movement, isolating motion and keeping any bedmates undisturbed.
Can it get any better?
Sustainable to the Core
That’s a dream team of mattress components if we’ve ever seen one. They come together to form an exceptionally comfortable and cooling mattress. Even better, it’s the most earth-friendly, sustainable mattress on the market.
As people who live on this planet (and would like to continue to be able to for a good long while!), we craft our products with sustainability and the environment at the core of every decision.
Alex is standing in front of a vat of liquid polyurethane, aka mattress foam 🤢 - the S&G Mattress is 100% foam-free
It’s also vegan, assembled in the USA with 90% domestic materials, and made without cotton, foam, virgin polyester, polyurethane or fiberglass. That means there’s ZERO off-gassing, just good, clean new bed smell.
Every S&G Mattress is made-to-order and assembled by hand. With each order, you get a fresh, new bed that's made just for you.
Trust us, we thought of everything. Now, it’s time for you to enjoy the fruits of our labor and get some well-deserved rest on a mattress that’s simply unmatched.
Hi Randy, you’ll need either a box spring or slats to properly support the mattress. The bottom layer is made with recycled steel coils, and the top two layers are made with 3 inches of Talalay latex, all three of which benefit from a solid foundation. If you have any more questions, don’t hesitate to reach out: hi@sheetsgiggles.com
What support is needed for the mattress? My current mattresses have either box springs or a foundation under them. The open frame (under box springs/foundation) has no solid material (no slats, no wood). Will that frame work to support this mattress or do I need to buy slats/plywood?
Hi Susie, thanks for your interest in our Eucalyptus Mattress!
We’re all about transparency. You can find lots more info on the mattress page (https://sheetsgiggles.com/products/eucalyptus-mattress), but I’ll summarize here:
*The mattress is made with two layers of Talalay latex totaling about 3".
*It’s a medium-firm mattress (around 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale).
*The coils are made with recycled, tempered steel. They’re 8" each and individually pocketed.
*The perimeter coils are high-caliber Ascension coils for greater edge support.
Email Pillowtalk@sheetsgiggles.com if you have any more questions!
Thanks,
Chris
Hi-This mattress sounds great! I’m the ultimate Goldilocks of mattresses and have cycled thru quite a few in the past 18 months, trying to find MY “just right”. Your site tells us what’s in the mattress, without REALLY telling us what it’s made of. How many inches of Talalay, what firmness AND ILD, what type of coils, coil height, etc. I hear you may or may not be coming after Avocado…transparency would have to be front and center! Thanks!
