Snooze News: Why World Sleep Month Is Worth Your Attention đ´đ
March is World Sleep Month â aka the one time of year when itâs not only socially acceptable to talk about how tired you are, itâs encouraged. At Sheets & Giggles, we think sleep deserves way more than just one month in the spotlight⌠but weâll take what we can get.
So, what is World Sleep Month, and why should you care?
Wait⌠World Sleep Month is a real thing?
Yep! World Sleep Month is an annual campaign led by the World Sleep Society, culminating in World Sleep Day (which falls on March 15th this year). The goal is to raise awareness around the importance of good sleep and how it impacts nearly every part of our health â from mental wellbeing to immune function to, yes, even how good your skin looks on Zoom calls. (Pro tip: blur your background for smoother-looking skin.)
Why Sleep Deserves Its Own Month
Hereâs the deal: we live in a culture that glorifies being âbusyâ and running on 4 hours of sleep like itâs a badge of honor. Chronic sleep deprivation can lead to a laundry list of issues like:
-
Lowered immune system
-
Increased anxiety and depression
-
Impaired memory and concentration
-
Higher risk of chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease
-
Being way less fun at brunch
World Sleep Month is a soft reminder that sleep isnât a luxury â itâs a biological necessity. And the better your sleep, the better your life.
How to Celebrate World Sleep Month (S&G Style)
We could tell you to go to bed earlier, practice mindfulness, avoid screens before bed, (and we do, often). But instead, today, hereâs our official, semi-serious guide to celebrating World Sleep Month the S&G way:
1. Upgrade Your Bedding Game
You wouldnât run a marathon in flip-flops, so why sleep 8 hours a night in subpar sheets? Our eucalyptus lyocell sheets are sustainably made, softer than a corgi puppy, and so cool that they peaked in high school.
2. Normalize Naps
A 20-minute nap can boost alertness, mood, and memory. Forgetting to set an alarm and taking a surprise 2-hour nap? Thatâs called âaccidentally time-traveling to dinner,â and we support it.
3. Have a Pillow Talk (with Yourself)
Ask yourself: howâs my sleep hygiene? When did I last replace my pillow? Am I doomscrolling until 3am again? Be honest. Be kind. Be well-rested.
4. Share the Love
Tell a friend that itâs World Sleep Month. Recommend your favorite sleep podcast. Or gift someone you love a ridiculously cozy new S&G pillow, made for alleviating neck pain. Sleep is better when itâs shared (but not your blanket â boundaries).
Donât Snooze on SleepÂ
We built Sheets & Giggles way back in 2017 (in the before-time) because we believe sleep is one of the most powerful things you can do for your health â and a better nightâs sleep starts with better bedding. So this March, letâs celebrate sleep like itâs going out of style (itâs not, at least not until Elon turns us all into robots), and make rest a priority every month of the year.
