What are eucalyptus sheets?

What are eucalyptus sheets?

In this week’s blog, we set out to answer one of the deepest, most important questions of the universe– What is the meaning of life?

Buckle up.

Well, the meaning of life is…

Lol jk! You didn’t think we could answer that for you, did you?

The (nearly as deep and important) question we’re actually exploring this week is: what are eucalyptus sheets?

Let’s get into it.

Can you tell that Catsanova is unimpressed by that bait and switch?

What are eucalyptus sheets?

Eucalyptus sheets are sheets made from eucalyptus tree wood. More specifically, they’re typically made out of eucalyptus lyocell, a cellulose-based fiber. And before you have nightmarish flashbacks to middle school biology, cellulose is simply a fiber found in plant cell walls. Not to be confused with mitochondria, the powerhouse of the cell (duh).

Lyocell is a rayon fabric like modal and viscose. Eucalyptus lyocell isn’t the only type of lyocell, but it is the most common* type.

*And also the best, according to our totally unbiased opinion.

People use eucalyptus lyocell to make sheets, obviously, but also for activewear, sleep wear, and even mattresses. That’s a story for another day, though. Today is Eucalyptus Sheets Day (our favorite proposal for a new national holiday), so here are some of the benefits of eucalyptus sheets:

Benefits of eucalyptus sheets

Naturally Cooling

Is there anything worse than waking up hot and covered in night sweats like you just ran a marathon in your sleep?

While other sheets can trap heat and make your bed into some horrible sauna-cocoon hybrid, eucalyptus sheets are naturally cooling. The fabric is light and breathable, plus eucalyptus lyocell wicks away moisture (like sweat) better than other options like silk, cotton, or *shudder* polyester.

Eucalyptus lyocell sheets are truly the best sheets for night sweats and summer. Kiss night sweats goodbye!

You won't have to risk monster attacks by sticking your toes out for cool air anymore!

Unbelievably Soft

Whatever else you might be looking for in your sheets, everyone wants them to be super soft and luxurious. Eucalyptus delivers on that softness and then some.

Softer even than cotton, eucalyptus sheets make sleeping a dream. The only downside is that they make getting out of bed in the morning even harder than usual, but it’s more than worth it.

And how’s this for an unbelievable (but true!) fact: your eucalyptus lyocell sheets will get softer with every wash. Finally some motivation to do laundry!

Stay clean longer

Okay, even though they get softer with each wash, you probably still won’t want to wash your eucalyptus sheets all the time. The good news is that you won’t have to.

Eucalyptus sheets stay cleaner for longer. It all has to do with some technical science-y stuff about the structure of the fibers.

Science nerds: follow the link for a super sweet diagram that explains it.

Everyone else: the gist of it is that you can wash your eucalyptus sheets less often than other types of sheets. Not a bad deal, right?

Still can't hide from laundry forever, but it's a good head start.

Durable

When you invest in some nice sheets, the last thing you want is for them to break down or fray after just a couple of months. That’s not a concern with eucalyptus sheets thanks to their incredible durability.

By design, eucalyptus sheets are durable and long-lasting. The strong eucalyptus fibers make them naturally resistant to damage.

Instead of worrying about wear and tear on your sheets, you can rest easy and just worry about which real estate show to watch on Netflix tonight. That’s just one more reason why eucalyptus sheets are worth it

Sustainable

Last, but definitely not least, is sustainability. If you’re looking for sheets that won’t kill the planet, eucalyptus sheets are the way to go.

In addition to the water they save by staying cleaner longer, eucalyptus lyocell sheets are also made through a very eco-friendly process.

The eucalyptus lyocell production process uses much less water and energy than other fabric production, sheds exactly zero microplastics (because they're plant-based and plastic-free), and doesn’t require any pesticides or toxic chemicals.

Bonus: eucalyptus sheets are 100% biodegradable, so you don’t even have to worry about them rotting in a landfill when you’re done with them. That’s a sustainability win.

So do you love good sleep AND the environment? Of course you do. Treat yourself to a new set of eucalyptus lyocell sheets today.

Go on... you'll be saving the Earth! (A little, at least)
