S&G Celebrates America Recycles Day

America Recycles Day is November 15

We’re mere days away from America Recycles Day – the only nationally-recognized holiday dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the U.S. – so we wanted to highlight what we’re doing at S&G to help keep the planet clean and green.

Giving to Keep America Beautiful

Keep America Beautiful is a US-based nonprofit that “inspires and educates people to take action every day to improve and beautify their community environment.”

For the next two days–November 15 and 16–we'll donate 10% of your purchase to Keep America Beautiful (or a different charity, if you prefer) at checkout on SheetsGiggles.com.

Your donation will allow KAB to expand their program offerings, fund community improvement projects from coast to coast, and provide the means needed to make meaningful and lasting impact in local communities across the U.S.

All cardboard, no plastic

At S&G, we care about our impact on the planet. That’s why all of our bedding packaging – from eucalyptus sheets to eucalyptus comforters and duvet covers – is made from 100% recyclable cardboard.

Our bedding packaging is also 100% plastic-free. No vacuum seal, no plastic ties, no bubble wrap. We don’t even put those little green army guys in our packaging anymore. (Note: our Eucalyptus Mattress Protector is currently shipped with recycled plastic, but we're working on an even more sustainable solution.)

By buying from S&G, you’re helping to keep both plastic and cardboard out of landfills. So, to all of our current and future customers, we just want to say, thank you for giving a sheet. It means a lot to us.

So, why is plastic so tragic?

According to the EPA, landfills received 26.8 million tons of plastic in 2017, comprising nearly 20 percent of all landfill waste. That's nearly twice as much plastic found in the average kid's playroom.

For these reasons (and more), we will continue to keep virgin and recycled plastic out of our packaging and, therefore, out of landfills and our bodies.

Why recycling matters

Recycling is an incredible innovation that has many far-reaching benefits – from keeping landfills less full to providing high-paying jobs right here in the U.S. While the recycling rate has increased five-fold since the '60s, we still have a long way to go. Here's a little reminder on why recycling is so important and impactful.

How to recycle like a boss

Sometimes it’s not as simple as casually tossing recyclables into the big blue container – you have to do a little precycling first. Check out these tips to ensure you’re recycling right.

Now, go out there and celebrate America Recycles Day by turning something old into something new.

And please consider the environment before never, ever printing this blog post.
