7 Simple Tricks to Wake Up More Easily
Are you someone who thinks so-called “morning people” sound about as mythical as unicorns? Do you drag yourself out of bed in the morning moaning and groaning like a zombie? Is the snooze button a close friend of yours?
Hey, no judgment here. Lots of people are in the same boat.
And there’s some good news: Even though waking up may never be your favorite task, these tips can help even the most snooze-addicted person wake up more easily.
1. Establish and stick to a consistent bedtime
Setting yourself up for a more pleasant morning actually starts the night before. Determine how much sleep you need each night (typically between 7 and 9 hours) and when you need to get up in the morning. Using those numbers, create a bedtime that gives you time for enough sleep without skipping your morning alarm.
If you can stick to that schedule every night or at least most of the time, you’ll already be much closer to waking up like a certified morning person™.
2. Drink Water
Once you do wake up in the morning, don’t reach right for your phone. Dog pictures on Instagram will still be there in fifteen minutes. Instead, reach for a nice tall glass of water.
Starting your day by drinking water will give your body some hydration to ward off the fatigue associated with dehydration. Add some lemon or cinnamon to make your water more flavorful and stimulating.
3. Streeeeetch
Stretching your arms over your head is the quintessential image of waking up, and it turns out there’s a good reason for that. Taking even just five minutes to stretch in the morning can help your circulation and wake up your muscles.
If it helps, you can do your stretches or yoga poses in your bed. By the time you’re done, you should feel more ready to face the day.
4. Skip the Snooze Button
We have all felt the seemingly inescapable pull of the snooze button. It’s like a black hole that sucks you in and makes you late to work all too often.
To make getting up easier, you need to break up with the snooze button. It’ll be a rough breakup at first, but we promise it’s better in the end. Using the snooze button regularly messes with your circadian rhythm and ultimately makes the morning more difficult than it needs to be.
5. Let the sunlight in
Light is the enemy when you’re trying to get some deep sleep, but it’s your friend in the morning. Open the blinds right when you wake up or even head for a short walk to soak up the sun.
The blue light in sunlight suppresses melatonin, the hormone that makes people feel tired. So more sunlight = less tiredness!
6. Try some aromatherapy
Here’s a trick you may not even know you’ve been using: aromatherapy to help wake up in the morning.
Research shows that some scents can help you feel more awake like peppermint, lemon, and even coffee. That’s right. Before you even drink it, your morning cup of joe may already be giving you some extra energy.
7. Make Your Bed
Not to sound like your mother, but you really should be making your bed in the morning.
Making your bed draws a clear line between night and morning, helping you curb the temptation to just crawl back under the covers. Plus, if you make your bed right away, you’ll already have a task checked off your to-do list.
And while you’re making your bed, why not consider upgrading to luxurious eucalyptus lyocell sheets?
tbh they probably won't make getting up easier, but they're worth it
